Plantar Fascitis

What is Plantar Fascitis?

Plantar Fascitis is a condition affecting the plantar fascia - a thick band of connective tissue which originates  on the bottom of the heel bone and extends along the sole of the foot towards the toes. Plantar fasciitis is fairly common and affects about 10% of the population.  Long periods of weight-bearing work can be a common cause of plantar fascitis.

Plantar Fascitis Pain

The pain from Plantar Fascitis is usually felt on the bottom of the heel and usually feels worse at the start of the day with your first few steps. Another symptom is the difficulty in bringing your toes forward towards your shin without pain. Runners with plantar fascitis typically notice increased knee pain.

Treatment for Plantar Fascitis

There are a many types of treatments available for plantar fascitis sufferers.  They can include rest,  stretching, use of night splints, massage therapy, specialized running shoes, physical therapy,  specific chiropractic adjustments, orthotics  or anti-inflammatory drugs .  In more serious cases, surgery might be required to correct plantar fascitis.
